The North Carolina Geographic Information Coordinating Council (GICC) was formed to develop policies regarding the use of geographic information, GIS, and other related technologies. The GICC conducts strategic planning, resolves policy and technology issues, and provides coordination of State, local and private sector GIS efforts.
The GICC meets quarterly and is charged with promoting geographic information as a strategic resource in the state. Committees routinely work on multiple issues that improve the quality, access, cost-effectiveness and usefulness of North Carolina's geographic information.
The GICC benefits both data developers and data consumers.
- Current Activities reveal GICC priorities.
- Committees get the job done through an interconnected structure that includes local, state, and federal members.
- Meetings provide a forum to discuss issues and share information.
- Policies establish the official record.
- Reports promote GICC efforts and publish the results.
- Standards create efficiencies to achieve better data.
