 NC OneMap GIS Inventory Minimize
Trying to find creators of North Carolina data? The easy-to-use NC OneMap GIS Inventory provides searchable status maps that reveal which local or state government agencies have produced a specific data set. Select from among 460 data themes to discover available data; then click the Identify tool on the status map to retrieve more detailed information from the data producer.

Make an Entry, Update Annually!
If you work for a local government agency that creates/produces GIS data sets, please register and complete the inventory (Time: about 10-20 minutes to register and about 2 minutes per data layer). Then review and edit your inventory record once a year to keep it current. Consult the county or city listing to see who in your agency has created an inventory record. Hundreds of state and local government data producers have entered information on 2,288 data sets; but 12 counties, as well as numerous towns and cities, are still missing. Your entry matters! This is North Carolina’s only comprehensive catalog of GIS data.

Every day, people use the online inventory to discover data resources. The Council’s Working Group for Seamless Parcels (WGSP), for example, is depending on the NC OneMap GIS Inventory to help point the way toward a statewide parcel data set. In addition to studying the responses to the “Policy” questions in the inventory, the WGSP sought more detail through 24 “State Questions” targeted to parcel/cadastral data producers. This is one example of how your participation in the inventory serves the larger North Carolina GIS community.
