The North Carolina Geographic Information Coordinating Council (GICC) was established by the NC General Assembly to develop policies regarding the use of geographic information, GIS, and related technologies. The GICC conducts strategic planning, resolves policy and technology issues, and provides coordination of State, local and private sector GIS efforts.
The GICC meets quarterly and is charged with promoting geographic information as a strategic resource in the state. Committees routinely work on multiple issues that improve the quality, access, cost-effectiveness and usefulness of North Carolina's geographic information, to the benefit of both data developers and data consumers.
The Center for Geographic Information and Analysis is staff to the NC GICC.
